To use ice or not to use ice? That is the question.
Generally speaking we would suggest using ice only in the first 48 hours after the injury. After that time and for nerve type pain we would suggest heat. As to which one is more suited to you depends on the condition, duration and of course – you! Please call the practice if you are looking for more clarity as to which one is more suited for you.
Remember a few key things no matter which one you are using:
– use over light clothing or a tea towel
– do not use on areas that are numb or if you cannot easily tell the difference between heat/cold in that area
– do not fall asleep while using ice/heat
– do not let either source cause a burn – remove before it happens.
